REIGNING AUSTRALIAN FORMULA VEE CHAMPION AT SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK THIS WEEKEND
The reigning Australian Formula Vee Series Champion, Kieran Glover, will be making his way up from his home state of Tasmania to race with the NSW locals at the last Round of the 2016 CAMS NSW Formula Vee State Championship this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Formula Vee races this weekend coincide with Round 2 of the 2016 Australian Formula Vee Series, which is currently being led in the pointscore by top NSW Formula Vee racer, Ryan Reynolds, by a slim 3 point margin to Kieran.
Kieran first earned himself Champion status by winning the Tasmanian Formula Vee championship, but his career shot skywards when he became the pilot of THE one and only Checkmate Formula Vee in 2014. THE Checkmate had already earned itself the title of the greatest Formula Vee ever raced in Australia by winning countless National Series and National Titles during its first eight years of racing life with the now-famous NSW driver Ben Porter behind the wheel.
But great cars attract great drivers, and Kieran has kept the the Checkmate's winning record steamrolling onwards by winning the 2015 Australian Formula Vee Series AND the 2015 Formula Vee National Challenge at Symmons Plains last October, Kieran making up several places on the last lap in an incredible Champion's drive to hold the prestigious Formula Vee National Title trophy high.
Although Kieran hails from the frozen state, THE Checkmate was born in a workshop in the North West Sydney suburb of Castle Hill, the brainchild of one Australia's least known great racing car engineers, Paul Corcoran, and his engineering colleague, John Kelcik.
A huge field of 29 local and interstate Formula Vees will hit the circuit on Saturday morning to decide the NSW State Champions by the end of the weekend, although Kieran and THE Checkmate won't have time to respect the State infighting. Kieran will be doing the only thing he ever does on a race circuit, aim to win every race!
